We are proud to be your local independent family Veterinary Practice.
Being established for more than 40 years our aim is to provide our local community with high quality modern Veterinary Care and staying true to the core values of client care, friendliness and family that the practice was built upon.
We are making some changes:
Following our recent survey (many thanks to many of you that participated) of both our clients and fellow vets, we have, after much deliberation, decided to make the following changes:
It was clear, form the survey that you really value our weekend “urgent” surgeries, running 365 days a year. We are therefore extending our Saturday opening times and also making our surgeries on Sundays and Bank Holidays longer.
Our new Surgery times, from the 11th of November, will be:
Open Surgery 9am-10am
Urgent cases only: 6pm-6:30pm (no appointment needed)
Sundays and all Bank Holidays:
Urgent cases only: 10-11am and 6-6:30pm
Urgent surgeries will now be staffed by a Duty Vet and a Nurse, rather than a vet alone. They will also be responsible for inpatient care (non-critical cases) for the whole weekend.
We ask that you do not use these surgeries for routine matters like vaccinations, worming and flea products etc but only for things that you feel should not wait till Monday morning.
Urgent Surgeries carry a surcharge of £25 over and above our normal fees.
After Hours work has changed greatly over the last few years, to the extent that our pets could have the same level of care available that we could get at our local A&E. The demands of such a service puts a great deal of pressure and stress on veterinary surgeons doing night duties (as was very evident in our recent survey of 66 Small Animal Vets). This has led to most Small Animal Practices opting to use a dedicated After Hours Service to provide the required level of care, with qualified staff on site 24/7.
Added to that there are now very few Small Animal Practices around that require their vets to be on-call, so we have been struggling to recruit, and retain, promising new and recent graduates. With plenty of no-on-call positions around, the increasing importance of work-life balance and the almost overnight disappearance of European applicants we have had to accept that we had to do something about vets sleeping with an on-call phone next to them at night.
Therefore, from Friday the 10th of November emergencies for both our branches out of hours will be covered by Vetsnow, our chosen Out of Hours service provider. They have Vets and nurses available on-site 24 hours a day. Both their clinics in Winchester and Southampton are within easy reach of our Branches. As a registered client of our practice you can use any of their branches nearest to you, even if you are travelling elsewhere in the UK.
